Transhumance enters UNESCO!

A year after jubilation was introduced to UNESCO, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage voted to include Transhumance in the list of cultural heritage.

Minister Elva Margariti announces that our country had already applied for a joint file with Spain, Andorra, Croatia, France, Luxembourg and Romania.

Transhumance, the tradition of cattle migration, is an ancient tradition that has crossed centuries and countries; a lifestyle rich in pastoral songs, instruments, clothing, rituals, festivals and cuisine.

Margariti’s post

“Transhumance in UNESCO!

Good news comes from Botswana: Exactly one year after the jublet was accepted under the protection of UNESCO, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage voted to include Transhumance in the list of world Intangible Cultural Heritage, for which we applied in a joint file with Spain, Andorra, Croatia, France, Luxembourg and Romania.

Joining Italy, Austria and Greece, which were included in 2019 for this phenomenon.

The tradition of cattle migration is an ancient tradition that has crossed centuries and countries; a lifestyle rich in pastoral songs, instruments, clothing, rituals, festivals and cuisine.

Let this be a good omen for the other files that the Ministry of Culture has submitted to UNESCO, prepared by experts in the field with the financial support of our partner @the_aadf.

Thank you for creating a winning file!”
