Must visit in Vlore: The National Museum of Independence

This is the first museum in Albania and I will explain why

These walls have witnessed one of the most important historical events in the history of the Albanian nation, the moment of the signing of the declaration of Independence on November 28, 1912 by Ismail Qemali.
He was not alone. 83 delegates from all Albanian territories took part in the proclamation of Albanian Independence from the Ottoman occupation that had lasted about 5 centuries.
Only a few meters away from the shore of the Adriatic Sea, facing the west, what would happen from that day, even though for a short time, the head of the Albanian government, Ismail Qemali, raised the red and black flag on the balcony of this building as a symbolic sign of free and independent Albania.

This balcony became a symbol of victory, freedom, and resilience of the Albanians to prevent the occupation of their motherland. You will find it only a few feet down from the Isa Boletini Square in the coastal city of Vlora. Admission costs only 300 ALL (3 dollars) and you will become an eyewitness to a historic monument.
The building has two floors and you have access to all its four rooms. This building that served for 6 months after the signing of independence as the seat of the government of Vlora, today preserves furniture of that time, Albanian flags of the 1900 model, historical documents, important documents of the Renaissance and Independence period, as well as works of various art dedicated to this period, the weight of which exceeds local targets.

You will find exhibited articles from the newspapers of the time, photographs of members of the government, busts of some of them, and historical data in Albanian and English. This museum was established in 1936 and is the first Albanian museum. From its creation until today, it has grown, completed, and consolidated as one of the most important museum objects not only in the district of Vlora but also beyond. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of National Independence, the National Museum was declared.
For the first time in many decades, the Museum of Independence building was completely rehabilitated in 2002, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Declaration of National Independence.
This building is valuable for all Albanians of all lands because that declaration of November 28, 1912, was the uprising of all Albanians from north to south, to have a government of their own and to build a true nation.
