Visit Lure-Deje Mountain National Park

Start with Lure Lakes. Drive from Peshkopi early in the morning. The road takes you to a group of glacial lakes surrounded by forest and open fields. Each lake has its own color and shape. You can hike from one to another and stop for a picnic. The area is calm in August, and most visitors are locals. Bring food and water since there are no shops nearby.

Pro tip: A 4×4 SUV is strongly recommended

Climb Mount Korabi

Mount Korabi is the highest mountain in Albania. The trail starts near Radomire, a small village east of Peshkopi. The hike is long but clear. You’ll pass shepherds, cold springs, and high fields. On the summit, you can see across the border into Kosovo and North Macedonia. Start early, carry water, and wear strong shoes. This is one of the best hikes in the country.

Swim in the Black Drin River

If you want to cool off, go to the Black Drin River. You can swim in calm parts near Gradec or join a rafting group for a short trip. The river stays fresh in August, and locals often bring their families for a swim. Bring sandals, towels, and snacks. Some villages along the river also offer small guesthouses and local food.

Pro tip: Check out Grand Bistro by Bolzano on Drin River

Relax in the Thermal Baths

Close to Peshkopi, you’ll find natural thermal springs. The water is warm, and people go there to relax or treat joint pain. There are simple pools where you can soak for an hour or two. The springs are public, not fancy, but clean enough. Go in the early morning or before sunset to avoid the heat.

Explore Peshkopi

Spend a few hours walking around Peshkopi. Stop by the museum to learn about the region’s history, clothing, and village life. Walk along the main boulevard for a coffee or ice cream. Small cafes serve local dishes like tavë kosi or fergece. The pace is slow, and most people are happy to chat.

Visit villages like Rabdisht or Zimur

Take a short drive or hike to nearby villages in the hills. Rabdisht and Zimur are quiet and full of old stone houses. Locals still work the land and keep bees or goats. Some families sell mountain honey, cheese, or dried herbs. Ask for directions to a viewpoint, and you’ll get more than one option.

Attend the celebration in Herebel

In mid-August, the Church of the Holy Transfiguration in Herebel hosts a two-day celebration. Both Muslim and Christian locals take part. You’ll hear traditional music, see old icons, and meet families from nearby villages. It’s a quiet but special event that brings people together.

Ask for local tips

Wherever you go in Diber, ask someone what to do. People are direct and helpful. You might learn about a short hike, a swimming spot, or a home that serves meals. Many places in this region don’t appear on maps or guides. A simple question can lead to a strong experience.

Diber in August gives you open space, fresh water, and direct contact with the land and the people. You won’t need much planning—just time, curiosity, and a good pair of shoes.
