Tushemisht sits right by Pogradec, you can either take a nice scenic walk by the lake to arrive, which will take around 30 minutes, you can get on a fugon (Albanian mini vans) or you can rent a bike. In Tushemisht, you’ll hear water flowing under stone bridges, and see old homes lined with grapevines. Locals move slowly, often stopping to greet you. You won’t need a car inside the village—walk, stop for coffee, and enjoy the quiet corners.

Natural springs flow from every direction. You’ll find them running through backyards, under walkways, and into Lake Ohrid itself. Ask a local, and they’ll tell you which spring has the best-tasting water. The sound of moving water fills the village and shapes the atmosphere. Take a bottle or use your hands and drink from the spring, the water tastes absolutely tastier than anywhere else (even if you are a water fan, you will tell the difference).

If you’ve seen Zonja nga Qyteti (The lady from the City), Tushemisht might look familiar. The village was the setting of the 1976 movie, and many older locals remember the filming. The story follows Ollga, a woman from Tirana adjusting to rural life. Locals remember the time when the cast and crew stayed for weeks to film. Today, the village keeps that memory alive. In the center, you’ll find a statue of Teta Ollga, standing with her bag in hand.

Those who know the movie stop here first. It’s become a must for photos, especially for Albanians who grew up watching the film. The house where key scenes were shot is still there, just steps away. People will point it out if you ask. Walking these streets brings back the humor, language, and small details that made the film iconic. If you haven’t seen it yet, visiting Tushemisht might convince you to watch it.

Restaurants line the shore with views of the water and mountains. Order grilled koran or trout, a salad with garden tomatoes, and byrek made on the spot. Some spots like “Taverna Ancora” or “Shtëpia e vjeter” let you pick the fish yourself. Meals are simple and made fresh. Don’ t forget to take your time and go for a walk on the bridge inside the water, you will catch some of the best sunsets ever. Next to Tushemisht, just five minutes of walk, you can find Drilon Park, take a walk, watch ducks swim under willow trees, or rent a small boat for a slow ride.
