Imagine this: you arrive at Tirana Central Station, grab a coffee, find your seat by the window and a few hours later you’re stepping off the train next to the Albanian Riviera.
No driving. No summer traffic. No “how are there STILL 97 km left?”
Yes, Albania technically has a railway network, but let’s forget reality for a minute. If we could build our dream passenger-train map, these are 5 routes we’d absolutely want.

1. 🚆 Tirana → Vlorë
This one feels almost mandatory.
Leave Tirana in the morning, watch central Albania disappear through the window and arrive in Vlorë ready for lunch by the sea. And imagine doing it in July without sitting behind 300 cars heading toward the coast.
Train + sea view + no summer traffic = take our money.
2. 🚆 Tirana → Shkodër
The perfect northern escape.
Coffee in Tirana in the morning, lunch in Shkodër and then maybe continue toward the lake or the Albanian Alps. This could easily become one of those routes where the journey itself is part of the trip.
And yes, we’d demand big panoramic windows.

3. 🚆 Korçë → Gjirokastër
Now we’re getting ambitious.
Imagine connecting two of Albania’s most beautiful historic cities by rail: Korçë, mountain landscapes, southern villages and finally the stone houses of Gjirokastër.
Would this be an easy railway to build? Probably not.
Would we book it immediately? Absolutely.
4. 🚆 Durrës → Sarandë
Now this would be a summer train.
Imagine starting by the Adriatic in Durrës, grabbing a coffee at the station and heading south until you reach the turquoise Ionian coast in Sarandë.
No long drive. No summer traffic. Just beaches, changing landscapes and hopefully some spectacular sea views along the way.
Durrës → Sarandë by train? We’d book it tomorrow.
5. 🚆 Tirana → Ksamil
Okay, now we’re officially dreaming.
Imagine boarding a train in Tirana and getting off in Ksamil.
No rental car. No endless summer traffic. No checking Google Maps every 15 minutes hoping the arrival time hasn’t increased again.
Just:
Tirana → coffee → countryside → Ionian Sea → Ksamil.
We know. Let us dream.

Albania Through a Train Window
Albania is small enough that a modern passenger railway could completely change how we experience the country. Instead of every trip becoming a road trip, travelling between cities could become part of the adventure itself.
Mountains outside your window. Villages passing by. Coffee on the table. The Adriatic appearing in the distance.
Maybe one day.
Until then, we’ll keep designing imaginary train routes.
If Albania could build ONE new train route tomorrow, where would you want it to go?
