Kanina, the village overlooking Vlora

Mountainous relief that stands out for its natural landscapes

Vlora is dizzying with its coast, with the blueness that heals the soul where the Adriatic Sea meets the Ionian Sea.

We are now ready to go and wander in its shores.

But that is not all. Up there on the hills, gazing at the winter and summer beach, there lies Kanina. A village visited mostly because of the old castle of Kanina Today, we are going there to learn something more about it and to enjoy the beautiful view of the bay of Vlora from a small cafe on the veranda of a house.

Kanina is a village with an area of about 43.6 km2 and lies 6 km southeast of the City of Vlora on Mount Shushica, at an altitude of 350-400 m, with a special view over the bay of Vlora. Itis connected to the city of Vlora through a local road.

There is mountainous relief that stands out for its natural landscapes with high values, as well as an undamaged nature.

You won’t see so many people around but it actually has a population of about 1400 inhabitants. That is good enough for an Albanian village.

Obviously, the sea attracts more people, even in the rough hills. The village is a suburban point and beyond it there are no other inhabited centers. It presents relatively abundant development space and has been affected very little by the urban developments of the last twenty years.

This village has a high agro-tourism potential related to the brand of olive oil “kalinjot”, local meat products, dairy and orchards, etc. The position in relation to the mountain of Shushica and the direct connections with the city of Vlora, make an ideal point for the sports of mountaineering and outdoor walking “tracking”.

Kanina is currently the starting point for the sport of parachuting.

The natural values almost untouched for recreational activity on nature observation, monuments and characteristic architecture of the village and the castle make it a suitable place for the development of cultural activities such as cultural and traditional festivals, but also in terms of organized visits to monuments. of culture, historical, religious, etc.
