Meet Sabrina Guettiche: the romantic french blogger visiting Albania after 45 other countries

Learning about the historical and natural wonders of Albania

Her instagram pictures look like fairytale fragments, as she always dresses these beautiful, colorful gowns and transmits to her followers the most romantic part of every city she visits. She gives travel advices and suggestions, most of the time in french, but we are really into the international language of the image, so we are sure you can also learn by her captures only.

She has already visited 45 countries around the world, from Hawaii to Shanghai, from South Africa to Cambodia and she has recently wandered through Albania too. A traveler of the world knows best how to tell the similarities and differences of one country to another, so we have been asking her how does Albania looks like to her, comparing to other destinations. She has been in Korça, Fier, Gjirokaster and a few other destinations in Albania discovering the history and beauty of our country.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Sabrina Guettiche (aka Bybia De Lille)

  1. Where are you from and what should our readers know about you as a traveler?
Hello, first of all, thank you for this interview. My name is Sabrina Guettiche, I am 38 years old, I am a nurse and I live in Lille in the north of France. I am also a food and travel blogger.  I have visited more than 45 countries. I am known on Instagram as Bybia de Lille. I have à blog : bybiadelille.com

2. When did you visit Albania for the first time and what made you come here?

I visited Albania in August 2021 at the same time as Kosovo and northern Macedonia on a Roadtrip. I came here because it was one of the few countries where you could go without being forced by COVID.
3. What did you know about Albania before planning to visit it?

I knew that countries were coming out of a difficult history. Many had a negative image of the countries of the East. But I wanted to have my own experience. I knew that the Ottoman and Roman Empire had left traces, so that there could only be cultural wonders.

  1. How long did your journey last and which places did you visit?

I stayed in Albania for 12 days. I first started with Tirana, then Shkoder via Kruje. Then on my way home I made Korçe, Gjirokaster, Ksamil, Dhermi, Vlora, Fier and Durrës.

  1. Which destination amazed you the most?

I wouldn’t say amazed but surprised. This country is truly magical because of its history and natural wonders.

  1. What kind of traditional food did you try and how did you like them?

There are many similarities with Turkish dishes. But I tasted the goulash which was excellent!

  1. What’s been the weirdest thing you’ve seen in Albania?

The rate of mountainous areas that lengthen distances from one city to another

  1. Did you learn any Albanian words?

I often spoke of an English (bad!) Otherwise I learned: Na falni, Mirupafshim, Faleminderit, Po / jo

  1. If I were your hometown friend, how would you describe Albania in three words?

Surprising, endearing and cheap!

  1. You have traveled already in 43 countries around the globe and seen a lot. Which one is more similar to Albania in your opinion?

I would say Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro from its history. And there are some Roman sites similar to Italian tourist sites (ex: Fier).

  1. What is you favourite capital city from all those you’ve visited?

I don’t really have favourite cities. It’s like asking a mother for her favourite child! Each city has its own particularity!

  1. What is the most challenging thing you ever did during your adventures?

It was in South Africa, returning from the Kruger Park. We had to go back to Johannesburg by car. The Michelin guide announced 2/3h drive. We had 7/8 hours of travel in mud roads, winding!!! We were very scared but it was a great experience.

  1. What do you think is the most stressful thing about traveling?

When my husband doesn’t like the plan I have prepared!!!

  1. Have you ever missed a flight? If yes, what happened?

It was a cancelled flight of which we were not aware in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The hotel staff who had become our friends wanted to take us back to the airport and fortunately they were present! They took us to a travel agency to buy tickets. To thank them, we invited them to the restaurant. Our friends advised me to take a raw fish salad. We then return to the hotel with a free night. And, during the night, I felt my cheeks swollen. I realised that I was having a big allergy attack and that I had to be treated quickly because it could be fatal! Fortunately, there was a dispensary down the street with a French-speaking doctor! I was very quickly taken care of and the crisis was managed. My first experience at the hospital abroad!

I was of course reimbursed for my flight thanks to my visa card.
15. What is the best genre of music you listen to while traveling?

We really listen to everything and sing loudly.

  1. What has surprised you most while travelling?

The hospitality and kindness of people in every country

17. What’s your dream destination?

A road trip to Australia.
