Meet Afrim Tahiraj, an engineer by profession and nature lover by heart

Where would you go in Albania if you had an unlimited budged for 24 hours?

Afrim has something against coffeeshops and you get that as soon as you check his Instagram profile. And it is nothing to do with coffee actually. He can’t stand people sitting for long hours in a bar while they could experience a great adventure through the Albanian mountains as he always does. You will see him traveling non stop, reaching high peaks and challenging the nature through heat and cold. That’s a pure adventurer soul.

He is a civil engineer by profession (and nobody cares about engineers nowadays), but he’s a nature lover by heart and that’s why he’s on our amazing blog today! He has a great sense of humour and he will for sure get mine too.

I can’t wait to reveal this interview to you. It has actually been sleeping through the drafts for a while waiting for the world to get ready. Today, he is all yours through these 17 questions and his wonderful photography.

Meet Afrim Tahiraj!!

1. What is that specific place in Albania where you would live for the rest of your life?

I would live where I live, in Tirana. It is the place that creates the most opportunities for me as a professional engineer. Add to that the fact that from Tirana you have almost equally far north and south, therefore more options for a different weekend.

2.Which is the Albanian dance that should definitely be danced at your wedding?

Kukës dance, of course!

3. How many pairs of socks do you take for a weekend trip?

Definitely two pairs of socks. Preferably I double the underwear too.

4. You have an unlimited budget for 1 trip within Albania for 24 hours. Give me your itinerary.

If it was summer I would take a small yacht and I would visit the beaches in all the bays of Karaburun.

5. A photo trick that you are ready to share with us amateurs.

Rule of thirds. Divide the photograph into 3 horizontal and 3 vertical parts and place the subject at the intersection of these lines or at the line itself that represents the point of interest. However, it does not always apply.

6. A mountain peak in Albania where you have not been yet?

Nemërçka Mountain in Përmet.

7. What is the book you started during a trip and never finished?

The Last Monument, Michael Grumley. I started it two years ago when I was on vacation in Saranda, I had it in electronic form and I could not get used to the idea of reading from the tablet.

8. Where  would you take your girlfriend for a romantic date ala traveler?

I think that somewhere in the Alps, Theth or Valbona. I would choose a villa with panoramic views, preferably in the winter time when there’s snow.

9. Which is the Albanian city where you would like to become mayor for at least 1 term?

I would become mayor in Kukës since it is my birthplace. I would do my best to restore hope to those people who are leaving day by day, orienting them towards mountain tourism.

Fifteen thousand dollars, for an expedition to Antarctica

12. The best Albanian compliment you have heard during your travels?
