Bishnicë is made for walking. The hills surrounding the village are crisscrossed with old paths used by shepherds and locals for generations. These natural trails offer incredible panoramic views of Lake Ohrid on one side and the Mokra mountains on the other. May is a particularly magical time to visit—lush greenery, blooming wildflowers, and perfect hiking weather. Whether you’re an avid trekker or a casual stroller, the peace and beauty of this area will stay with you long after you leave.

For an additional adventure, take a scenic drive from Bishnicë to the Lakes of Lukova, located around 30 kilometers (about 18 miles) away. For those who are down for a great adventure, you can take the initiative to hike to the lakes, but be well prepared with food, proper clothing and lots of energy! There are also groups that are organized from @discoverpogradec (you can follow and shoot them a text on their dms), who usually organize hiking groups to the amazing and hidden gems around Pogradec. You surely wouldn’t’ want to miss that!

The lakes are tucked into the hills of the Albanian Riviera, offering crystal-clear waters framed by rugged terrain and lush green landscapes, often reminding tourists of the Swiss landscapes. It’s a perfect day trip from Bishnicë for those looking to combine mountain serenity with a glimpse of Albania’s coastal beauty. As far as we know, Bishnicë doesn’t yet have restaurants or official guesthouses. It’s a village that remains untouched by commercial tourism, which is part of its authentic charm. There are a few charming wooden eco-lodges under construction—signs of quiet development—but they’re not yet ready to welcome travelers. That said, if you’re lucky, a local might invite you into their home for a warm plate of homemade byrek and a strong glass of raki.

Albanians are known for their heartfelt hospitality, and it wouldn’t be the first time a spontaneous lunch with a stranger becomes the highlight of the trip. But whether or not you stumble upon a generous host, you’ll still be swept away by Bishnicë’s sweeping green hills, the kind of landscape that wears 50 shades of green, especially in spring. This is a place where nature speaks louder than words—raw, peaceful, and utterly enchanting.
