Pogradec is the pearl of the Southern Eastern region of Albania, not so underrated anymore, but still not fully discovered. June is the perfect month to enjoy the sun, sunbathe in the lake or even take a swim if you are daring enough, get on that bike and cycle behind the horizon where you can find sunsets, churches, parks and more. This town offers a warm daytime, but a chilly nighttime, so don’ t forget to bring a jacket.

Water Activities
Rent a pedal boat for around 5 Albanian Lek for an hour, near the main promenade and go on a “ride” in the lake. These small watercraft let you enjoy the lake at your own pace. You don’t need training. Just step in and start pedalling. The water stays calm in June, which makes it perfect for this type of ride. Bring a hat and sunscreen. Early morning or late afternoon is best. Locals say the view of the mountains from the lake is something you won’t get from land. You can even bring a small speaker or a snack.

Land Activities
Rent a bike from one of the shops near the promenade and head southeast toward Tushemisht. The ride takes about 20 minutes and follows a flat lakeside road. You’ll pass cafés, small beaches, and fields full of corn and sunflowers. Once in Tushemisht, park your bike and walk through the canals that run through the village. Locals still use them for fishing and irrigation. If you’re feeling more adventurous, continue cycling to Saint Naum Monastery in North Macedonia. The border crossing is right past Tushemisht and open for pedestrians and cyclists. Bring your ID or passport. From there, it’s a 6 km ride to the monastery. The path is quiet, with lake views on one side and forest on the other. It’s one of the easiest international day trips you can do from Pogradec.

Hike to the Pogradec Castle
If you enjoy views and short hikes, go up to Kalaja e Pogradecit (the Castle of Pogradec). The trail begins near the old mosque and climbs steadily for about 20–25 minutes. You can either get up at 4:00 am to catch a nightime and sunrise view at the same time, or late in the evening to enjoy a sunset, depends on what type of view you prefer, yu can find everything. Wear sneakers and bring water. At the top, you’ll see what’s left of a 5th-century Illyrian structure. There are no signs, but the view speaks for itself. You’ll spot the whole city, the lake, and even parts of North Macedonia. It’s quiet and usually empty. Great place to take photos or just sit and take a break by enjoying a nice picnic.

Dine with a View
Pogradec has plenty of dining options where you can enjoy local food and relax with a view. Most places around the lake serve koran, the local trout unique to Lake Ohrid. It’s usually grilled and served with lemon and herbs. You’ll also find spots that cater to different tastes. Some offer Italian dishes, while others serve sushi, burgers, or vegetarian plates. Prices are reasonable, and portions tend to be generous. For the best panoramic view of the city and lake, head to Hani i Gështenjave. It sits just above Pogradec and serves traditional meals at very affordable prices. Locals recommend the lamb and fresh salads. It’s quiet, scenic, and great for dinner away from the main crowd. In our website you can find lists with some of the best restaruants to satisfy your hunger and your “eyes” in Pogradec.

Discover Lin Village
Take a half-day trip to Lin, a small lakeside village about 25 minutes from Pogradec by getting on one of the local mini vans (fugon) paying around a euro and for the adventurous ones with stamina you can get on a bike and cycle your way there. Start by walking up to the early-Christian mosaic church. The site offers a wide view of the bay, and the short hike is worth it. Walk through the narrow streets to see stone houses, flower gardens, and locals selling honey, dried herbs, and fresh figs in June. Lin is peaceful, but if you’re feeling adventurous, bring your swimsuit. The water here is clear and perfect for a quick swim. You can also ask local fishermen for a boat ride. Most are happy to take visitors out for around 10 euros. It’s a short ride, but you’ll get the best views of the village and deep swimming spots away from shore. Just ask around by the lakefront, someone will always say yes.
